This series of works, composed of marble or natural stones entwined with manufactured rope, refers to the practice of bondage or, more broadly, to the dynamics of power—submission and domination—that are omnipresent in our social structures.
Bondage stages a form of consensual control: one person temporarily surrenders their freedom of movement, while the other assumes responsibility for this surrender. Submission, in this context, is an active choice, and domination is exercised within clearly defined rules.
Being bound can mean momentarily relinquishing control, which may bring relief from the constant pressure of self-mastery. In everyday life, we often navigate hierarchical relationships in which we “yield” a portion of our autonomy in exchange for security—be it a salary, recognition, or status. Every relationship involves a balance of power and surrender, whether in friendship, family, or love. As individuals within society, we also accept certain rules and constraints—laws, social expectations, conventions—that limit us yet provide a structuring framework.
By ritualizing these dynamics, bondage highlights broader mechanisms of power, trust, and relinquishment that shape our daily lives. It offers a conscious exploration of these forces, in a space where domination and submission are not imposed but rather negotiated and chosen—an act that, in itself, carries a strong social lesson.
